The World Needs More Love Letters
I’m not sure when or how I first discovered The World Needs More Love Letters, but it’s become one of the true joys of my life. Every month, the site shares 4-5 letter requests from people around the world. The requests come from individuals in all kinds of situations, but most are seeking love, support, and a little encouragement.
I don’t write a letter for every request, but I try to send at least one card each month. I love the process of creating a bespoke card and crafting a message that feels just right for the person receiving it. I’ve even created an extensive Pinterest board with quotes I can draw from when I’m not sure what to say. More often than not, though, I find myself turning to a simple but powerful phrase my Grandma used to say to me: “Be strong!”

Beyond the main website, there’s a private Facebook group where more pop-up letter requests are shared. In 2021, I posted a request for my mom after she had a heart attack. We were overwhelmed by the response—receiving over 100 cards and letters from people all over the world. Later that year, we posted a request for one of my best friend’s cousins, a nurse working during the pandemic. She, too, was showered with love and encouragement from strangers. Seeing the profound impact these cards have on people’s lives inspires me every month to send out my own.

One of my favorite parts of the year is the special holiday event that The World Needs More Love Letters hosts: The 12 Letters of Christmas. Instead of the usual 3-4 requests, they post a new one each day for 12 days straight. These requests often generate hundreds of letters from across the globe, and it’s become one of my most cherished holiday traditions. This year, my sister-in-law passed along a huge box of beautiful, ornate holiday cards, which made filling out these requests even more fun.
Make sure to mark your calendar for December 1st and sign up to receive the letter requests. But until then, I encourage you to check out the requests each month and consider sending a little love into the world.
Sidenote: You don’t have to create elaborate cards to participate. Personally, I don’t buy store-bought cards anymore (check out my blog on making your own cards for inspiration!).
